Broad Beach Remodel – Malibu
Remodel and addition to a 1970’s Malibu beach home. Large light wells cut through the building volume to dramatically bring sunlight into the first floor living space. Many interior walls were removed to reveal an open plan with post and beam architecture. Detailed Japanese style tongue and groove joinery is used on the wood beam connections. Steel I-Beam’s for earthquake are exposed, structurally allowing expansive glass walls to open to the beach. A new glass-walled guest house wrapped with horizontal wood louvers is perched above a board formed concrete garage at the street.
